With the onset of summer’s warmer weather finally upon us, there are plenty of ways to get in some exercise and increase your daily step count in Secord without having to step foot in a gym.
For most of us, these longer days and endless hours of sunshine mean it’s the ideal time to get outside and get exploring. Whether your preferred method of movement is via walking, jogging, or cycling, all forms of exercise are possible along Secord’s many pathways and nature trails – all just steps away from your front door.
The Secord Wetland Natural Area alone provides a beautiful, lush wetland (the Secord Pond) surrounded by upland forest. Formal walking trails meander through the site, surrounded by walls of balsam poplar and trembling aspen. With a couple of picnic tables in the clearing along 217 Street & Secord Promenade, you can easily walk laps in the neighborhood and even stop for a breather in between counting steps.
The good news is that there’s plenty of space for everyone among Secord’s pathways. Just north of the Secord Pond is the Winterburn Pond, another scenic site nestled next to the Secord Treestand Natural Area, which also has walking trails, open space, and baseball diamonds. To the southeast is a third natural site, the Stony Pond, which can be accessed via the western portion of Secord Gate.
All three of these areas provide ample trail space for walkers, joggers, and cyclists alike. So get out there and start enjoy navigating Secord’s many neighborhood trails on your own, with family, or in the company of good friends,
