In our Arbour Lake West Luna show home we combined two of our very famous palettes: Timber and Metro, to highlight the Luna’s modern classic loo[JT1] [JT2] k, celebrate the traditional roots and optimize the spacious floorplan.
HOW WE UPCYCLED AND OUTDID OURSELVES IN THE LUNA:
Work and study from home spaces are so important right now, and we wanted to show our clients that having a “built-in” desk can be functional and stylish without breaking the bank.
We used wall mount bathroom vanities and countertops to create a “floating desk” and found that the depth of the vanities are perfect for the flex space. The full length of the countertop was cut lengthwise to match the appropriate depth and we added leather drawer pulls and a leather desk chair to elevate the bibliotic look.
- WALL MOUNTED PLUG-IN FIXTURES: These are easy to install and a smart way to add custom lighting to any wall with a plug.
- PICTURE RAILS: These are a great way to display various art without piercing or damaging the wall. We especially love the idea of changing the art on the picture rail for different seasonal décor.
In the basement suite, we used the same vanities and counters and repurposed a desk from an old project! This recycled desk utilizes the space under the bulkhead as an office and incorporates the headboard above the bed. Check it out for yourself – link to BookHopewell.com
Common Area Craft:
Half painted walls are trending! This DIY colour blocking is a high impact, high style upgrade for low cost and you can easily do it yourself.
Our team used the half-painted wall technique to create an inviting entrance for the basement suite.
Cheap and cheerful storage compartments were added to the hallway and installed on the lower portion of the painted colour blocking. An innovative way to extend the use of functional space. We then went the extra step of using the cut off from the counter top of the foyer desk to complete the look and add a communal drop zone.
Wallpaper is a great way to add personality to any space. In one of the bedrooms, we used a black wallpaper with a gold fleck.
In the Primary Suite, we used a faux woven grass cloth with a watercolour print. Both papers are neutral and add a layer of tactile interest.
Words from our design team:
“My favorite feature in the home is the two-tone cabinetry! The rich walnut wood is stunning in a flat panel door profile and pairs beautifully with the tailored cabinets on the lower half and the island’s off white colour. We also went for solid surface counters and white picket hexagon backsplash for edgy, yet, sophisticated. Plus, the oversized tiles in the ensuite demand attention! These tiles are simple to care for, easy to live with and look high end. Classic and livable choices ensure the space looks classic, not dated.
Secondly, I love the simplicity of the fireplace detail. White drywall and a white mantel. This really allowed us to style the mantel with a large oversized round mirror, layered with vases and décor. It’s like a gallery for displaying décor, art or a mirror.”
